Enterprise software systems must be
designed to meet any transactional load imposed upon
them through the addition of multiple hardware
elements server side. The elegance with which this
can be done dictates the scalability of the system.
Aegis leads the industry by implementing the
absolute most advanced methodologies available for
supporting unlimited back-end scalability for any
loading. This technology enables support of massive
multi-user deployments and MES systems with vast
numbers of real-time data collection points. We
invite you to explore how Aegis engineered
scalability into its information platform from the
ground-up.

MULTI-TIER ARCHITECTURE
The Aegis web-centric information platform is
comprised of several distinct layers with clearly
defined demarcation points. These layers permit the
distribution of the data storage, business logic,
web services, and web server layers across multiple
physical servers. The stateless design of all
business logic objects and web services allows load
balancing hardware to distribute web requests across
unlimited numbers of web servers and business logic
servers. This presents the customer unlimited
deployment options, and no limit to transactional
volume capacity.
In addition to load handling, the multi-tier
architecture has benefits related to third-party
integration and platform independence. Third party
integrators may access the data directly from the
data storage layer, which would be Oracle or SQL
Server. However, for safer and more elegant
functional and data integration, information
requests may be made directly to the web services
layer using XML/SOAP, protecting integrators from
future data structure changes.
The multi-tier design also includes an intermediary
“data manager” layer between the data access drivers
and the business logic. This layer compensates for
different database dialects and allows data server
platform independence. Aegis supports data servers
on Windows, Linux, IBM AIX, SUN Solaris, and Unix
servers and operating systems. This compatibility is
supported without requiring changes or installing
new Aegis software.
HARDWARE DISTRIBUTION OPTIONS
Aegis products can be deployed in a great variety of
ways. Smaller deployments may place all server-side
components on a single physical server. Medium
deployments may separate the web server and business
logic components onto one server, and the database
onto another.
Large deployments have configured
systems with load balancers at the front of arrays
of web servers, which contain redundant business
logic components. These servers then access a
mirrored physical server containing the data server,
which then accesses an array of redundant physical
devices for storage.
The architecture allows nearly
limitless permutations of these deployments from the
simplest to the most advanced.
