BAE SYSTEMS STANDARDIZES ON AEGIS WEB–CENTRIC SOFTWARE FOR PCB ASSEMBLY

PHILADELPHIA, PA – AEGIS Industrial Software announces that BAE SYSTEMS Avionics at Rochester, the global systems defense and aerospace company, will implement AEGIS web-centric manufacturing software across its electronics assembly facilities. BAE SYSTEMS has approved corporate-wide implementation of AEGIS software for improving manufacturing productivity and visibility. AEGIS manufacturing software expedites new product introduction and revision control/changes, creates a collaborative factory office environment, optimizes assembly machinery, and disseminates assembly information via the Web to management and the factory floor.

BAE SYSTEMS Avionics required a single system to streamline the myriad of tasks involved in transforming basic CAD and BOM data into useful manufacturing outputs, but also needed collaborative electronic control and web-based dissemination of the resultant information to the factory. They selected AEGIS following an evaluation, deployment, and testing period lasting more than a year in actual production conditions. The software’s ease of deployment, scalability, CAD and machine interfaces, and its combination of data preparation, product data management, and manufacturing execution within a single coherent system deliver a unique competitive edge for BAE SYSTEMS’ Rochester facilities.

“After a lengthy search for a software solution to a broad set of manufacturing problems, BAE SYSTEMS chose AEGIS for their unique web-centric software and their service reputation,” said Jason Sowerby of BAE SYSTEMS. “Within four days of their engineers’ deployment visit, we had a web-based paperless system running in our factory, bridging our machine programming and document generation system directly to the floor. Months later, our solution continued expanding, and AEGIS proved a real business partner in our effort to form a more productive factory. We look forward to the continuing deployment across the BAE SYSTEMS manufacturing community,” adds Sowerby.

“BAE SYSTEMS approached AEGIS with a well-defined vision of how an efficient electronics factory should operate, both in the engineering office, as well as on the floor.” said Jason Spera, AEGIS CEO. “They had an acute awareness of the control and efficiency problems of new product introduction, machine management, and the dissemination and tracking of information on the factory floor. Their vision of one truly integrated solution, using the Web and one database, to act as the platform for all of their needs, aligned well with AEGIS’ product design philosophy.”

AEGIS has set the standard for enterprise-level manufacturing information management by creating TransCollaborative Manufacturing (TCM) software, an entirely unique category of software. Aegis’ complete software solution offers scalable CAD/CAM documentation and machine programming, BOM and revision control, browser-based approval processes, browser-based paperless documentation and quality management, customer and supplier integration, and more. These benefits are provided via one seamless, collaborative system.

BAE SYSTEMS is the truly global systems, defense, and aerospace company, with more than 100,000 employees and annual sales of around £12 billion ($17 billion). The company offers a global capability in air, land, sea, and space with a world-class prime contracting ability supported by a range of key skills. BAE SYSTEMS designs and manufactures civil and military aircraft, surface ships, submarines, space systems, radar, avionics, communications, electronics, guided weapon systems, and a range of other defense products.
