For Immediate Release – April 2003
AEGIS “xLINK” ENDORSED THROUGHOUT EQUIPMENT VENDOR
EXHIBITS AT APEX 2003—CAMX FACTORY COMMUNICATIONS IS REALIZED.
Philadelphia PA – Aegis Industrial Software announces the
successful launch of its groundbreaking machine communications
technology, xLink, by major equipment vendors at the recent 2003 APEX
exhibition in Anaheim, CA. xLink is incorporated into the machines of
major placement, process, test, and inspection vendors making their
real-time data easily accessible. It enables web-based monitoring and
communications on the factory floor via the IPC CAMX data standards.
Machines carrying Aegis ‘xLink badging’ were seen in the booths of eight
vendors, while certain exhibits used xLink on actual running lines and
monitored them in real-time through AEGIS iMonitor web portals .
xLink was developed by Aegis in conjunction with equipment suppliers as
an easily integrated, cost-effective, robust, and standardized
communications technology to make every machine in the factory a web
information server. The XML data streams from the machines are
standardized per the IPC CAMX standards, allowing any third party to
easily harvest valuable run-time information, remotely control machines,
and communicate production programs as needed throughout the floor.
The swift adoption of the technology by leading vendors, its ubiquitous
presence at APEX, and the closure of four additional vendor integration
agreements during the exhibition clearly herald a new age of effective
data management on the factory floor. Further still, the iMonitor
web-based performance monitoring system was featured at the exhibit on
true production lines, revealing the value of real-time information
harvested by xLink when made available to process engineering, quality
engineering, and business leaders.
Jason Spera, Aegis CEO, said of the xLink launch, “Creating a software
technology and having it so quickly incorporated into machines by their
vendors is very exciting. The xLink launch was more than a product
launch, it represents the emergence of a new de facto standard for
factory information communications, built on IPC standard data formats.
Aegis looks forward to completing machine integrations with many more
vendors in the near future, and to providing systems like iMonitor to
fully utilize the information xLink harnesses. We’re gratified to have
developed a technology that will enable real improvement in the industry
through true factory information access.”
Machine vendors displaying xLink badging on their equipment included
Assembleon, Cookson Electronics Equipment, Christopher, MYDATA, Tyco
Electronics, Europlacer, Ekra, VI Technology, and YesTech.
