AEGIS INSTALLS NPI AND SHOP FLOOR MANUFACTURING
EXECUTION SOFTWARE AT VARIOSYSTEMS AG

Europe, a leader in New Product Introduction and Manufacturing
Information Management systems for global electronics assemblers, has
announced that Variosystems AG has installed Aegis integrated NPI and
MES suites. Variosystems AG based in Steinach, Switzerland, is part of
the international Variosystems group with facilities in Dallas, Texas,
and Negombo, Sri Lanka. Variosystems AG is a leading European contract
assembler priding itself on innovation, fast ramp up times,
specialisation in all test requirements and global procurement. In
parallel Variosystems Inc is also implementing Aegis NPI and MES systems
at its Dallas facility.
Commenting on the recent implementation, Alfred Langguth, director of
operations and development, said, “Variosystems spent several months
evaluating different NPI tools for the Steinach and Dallas facilities,
looking for a total solution to meet our global integrated business
needs. We generated a matrix of our requirements and then ranked the
tools, realizing that Aegis provided the best solution at the best
price. Our main goal is to further enhance our quality level. The use of
"electronic work instructions" will allow us to remove most of the paper
instructions and drawings now on our production floors. Route
enforcement will allow us to guarantee that no production step is
skipped. Variosystems expects that the integrated online reports will
allow us to identify potential quality issues before they become
problems.”

manufacturing. They want to build a more robust, technology-independent
process defining ‘how’ products are to be built. In the European
contract assembly market rapid NPI, with provable quality and quality
reporting, compliance to RoHS directives and conformance to regulatory
requirements, is a must,” said Peter Clegg, business development
director at Aegis Europe.
“The criteria for evaluating and selecting Aegis came down to our
ability to rapidly create machine programs for their different machine
sets, easy-of-use in creating all documentation – drawings and work
instructions, proven shop floor control and full integration to their
MRP system,” Peter added.
The Aegis documentation package, integrated with machine programming,
supports multimedia capabilities. Drawings can be easily annotated with
photos, diagrams and video clips for complex hand assembly or repair
work and of course the documentation can be in any language aiding fast
product ramp up between the global sites.
“A key requirement was multilingual support (English and German) so that
we could implement the same system in both facilities in Steinach
Switzerland and Southlake Texas. This will allow our company to operate
with the same procedures in both locations, regardless of location,
distance, language and time zone,” said Norbert Bachstein,
