For Immediate Release – November 2005
AEGIS EUROPE SELECTED BY HANSATECH LTD TO
REDUCE
MANUFACTURING COSTS AND IMPROVE OFF-LINE PROGRAMMING
Productronica, Munich Hall A4 Stand 167 – 15 November 2005 –
Aegis Europe, a leader in Manufacturing Information Management systems
for global electronics assemblers, has announced that Hansatech Limited,
a UK established contract electronics manufacturer, has selected Aegis
manufacturing information software for process definition, documentation
and advanced machine programming. The suite includes 3 CircuitCAM
concurrent licenses for all documentation creation and advanced off-line
machine programming with line balancing. Hansatech provides turnkey
system and box build services, the assembly of chassis and other
enclosed systems, and test and commissioning services across a diverse
range of industries, from mobile and satellite communications, audio
mixing consoles and in-car hi-fi to ion implantation, spectrophotometry
and drug delivery systems.
Many years of experience in introducing new products to manufacturing
has resulted in the development of comprehensive and highly robust New
Product Introduction (NPI) procedures throughout the company. The
ability to introduce new products efficiently with minimum time to
market is a key element of Hansatech’s contract manufacturing assembly
business and the strategy behind their investment in new software
systems for NPI.
With support for Hansatech’s existing software being discontinued,
in-depth evaluations showed that the alternative product offered was not
ideal. Aegis systems provided much increased programming functionality
and improved compatibility with Hansatech equipment, with the potential
to expand their NPI and manufacturing control processes still further.
Commenting on the recent implementation, Guy Bridge, engineering manager
at Hansatech (King’s Lynn plant), said, “In selecting the Aegis software
above alternative, less suitable solutions, we are able to realize a
much reduced cost of ownership, significantly improved off-line
programming capabilities that will free up capacity on production
equipment, and reduced cycle time from data receipt to program
completion.”
“We also evaluated that the scope for introducing greater ‘intelligence’
into our machine programming and the continued expansion of our
manufacturing control systems was considerable and definitely achievable
with Aegis software, delivering benefits right across the business,” Guy
added.
“Hansatech was also extremely pleased with our competitive cost of
ownership and annual maintenance program,” said Peter Clegg, business
development director at Aegis Europe. “Their criteria for evaluating and
selecting Aegis came down to our strength in relationships with the
equipment manufacturers and our ability, as a software supplier, to
maintain total compatibility and harmony with changes to machine
manufacturer’s platforms – essential to the efficiency of Hansatech’s
operation.”
The Aegis system allows manufacturers to merge the bill of materials
with the supplied CAD data to support rapid New Product Introduction for
multiple lines and multiple processes, with built-in process and BOM
revision control. CircuitCAM defines the logical routings, aiding fast
and consistent data preparation and delivery of programs to machines,
documentation to manual assembly stations, and task and checklists to
all locations from printing to AOI to repair to box-build. The Aegis
software handles Hansatech off-line machine programming and optimization
needs, manages balance line allocations and, machine libraries while
creating the bill of process for each machine station.
About Hansatech
Founded in the UK in 1972, the Hansatech Group comprises four plants
offering turnkey contract manufacturing assembly services. With
locations in King's Lynn, Poole and Cambridge totalling some 10,000 sq
m, the Group's plants offer a highly flexible approach to the contract
manufacturing assembly and support of electronics based products of many
types and styles. Hansatech also provides a flexible 'soft start' to low
cost offshore far eastern manufacturing by providing full new product
introduction (NPI) manufacturing services in the UK before transferring
production to the Philippines as part of its strategic alliance. As
manufacturing technology has moved forward the Hansatech Group has
continued to invest in state of the art assembly equipment with product
now manufactured utilising 0201 and CSP surface mount technologies.
